Recipe Pairing - Selected by Rich

We are getting WAY too many potatoes in our CSA box lately. As a result, tonight's dinner planning started from brainstorming about making a potato soup. We also had some golf-ball sized beets to enjoy. The beets are the first of the season and extra yummy. So Rich picked out these two recipes - and here you go, just in case you ever have too many potatoes and/or beets.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is on his way to Seattle. He'll be leading a five day "Seeds of Compassion" conference - "an unprecedented gathering to engage the hearts and minds of our community by highlighting the vision, science, and programs of early social, emotional, and cognitive learning".

I really wanted to go to this but tickets were gone in a blink. Thankfully you can watch events live as they happen or watch archived events on the web.

Of note, there is a book list on their website. Books for parents to read to their children.

Tiger Mountain Picture

This is my favourite family picture as of late. We braved the potholes and kicked off April with a hike at Tiger Mountain. It is a busy but beautiful spot. We are still looking for the tigers that live there.

Easter Bunny Bread

As you can see, i found this recipe in Good Housekeeping in 1992. I'm happily still making this bread, and now sharing the fun of it with my children. Sorry about the bad handwriting.

Happy First Day of Spring

Not thinking about it being the first day of spring, we made our way to Squak Mountain Nursery. It is a sweet little nursery. We were on the hunt for more Jiffy 7s and some lemon verbena starts. Naturally, we found a few other fun things along the way. I'm already looking forward to going back when they have even more starts out. The cashier suggested pineapple sage -it attracts butterflies and turns a bright red in late summer.

I meant to hit Daffodil Day at Pike's Place Market for this holiday. I love the thought of 30,000 bright yellow daffodils!  Next year...
