Electric Fountain

Here is a cool slide show of the Electric Fountain at the Rockefeller Center.

Currently, Mina's favourite video is Weezer's Island In The Sun!

Music Notes

Twenty years later, the Cowboy Junkies have recreated their famous "Trinity Sessions" album. See article in the Seattle Times. I'm not sure if i'll like the new release but the original is one of my favourite albums ever.

Happy birthday, Kurt Cobain. He would have been 41 today.

Growing up...

This weekend, Mr Miles upgraded from his crib to a bunk bed. It was a bittersweet moment, really. I'm pretty confident that Mina was even more excited as she's claimed the upper bunk until Miles is ready. So much to our surprise, they've chosen to be roommates. That's truly the sweet part.

Loving the Music of Joshua Morrison

Tonight i was baking, sipping tea and listening to KEXP in a quiet house. This is one of my favourite things. Tonight my ears perked up at someone new, Joshua Morrison. Enjoy!

I Love Todd Parr

Yesterday, Mina excitedly reminded me of a page in Todd Parr's book "It's Okay to be Different"...

My Funny Valentines...

Yesterday was a sweet day. Mina decided that we should go for a hike at Weowna Park in the morning. As we walked, we were busy looking for signs of spring. In the afternoon, we went to Bellevue Arts Museum to decorate shoe boxes for Valentine's Day. Mina is rather excited to pick up her bags of preschool Valentines and put them in her box!

Richard Fisher Compost Pot

When in Dundas we stopped in at Richard Fisher's pottery studio. The goal was to get Rich some new beer steins for his upcoming birthday. We stepped in the door to his studio to find Richard and his assistant busy at work. Richard was finishing handles on mugs, while his assistant was dipping various pieces into a garbage container full of glaze. Being in his studio was a great exposure for wide-eyed Mina into the world of ceramics. You could see it all, from the unused 25lbs bags of clay to his finished work in the upstairs display area. The whole experience made me want to get back into working with clay. One day...

But my greatest delight that day was noticing Richard Fisher's awesome compost pots! Immediately i knew that this would look better on my counter than the plastic city-provided "green" bin! In this pot, we collect our worm food - raw vege and fruit scraps, coffee grounds and tea leaves. The compost pot is there and handy when i'm cooking. I absolutely LOVE IT! Under the sink is the plastic bin for city collection of post-dinner food scraps and anything not for our at-home compost system.

On that note, the worms are doing fine and made it through the cold spell that we had in January. We brought them into the garage to keep them extra happy. As far as pets go, these things are the best thing ever!

Happy V Day!

We are back home and getting back into the swing of daily life. Last night, I put up a ton of pictures from our two weeks in Ontario on our family website. There are WAY too many favourites to post them all, so get a cup of tea and have a look!

The biggest contrast on coming home has been the weather. Here it really feels like spring! We quickly traded in the winter jackets and boots for spring-gear. My crocus and snowdrop bulbs are already blooming, with signs of more to come. I have enjoyed getting out to parks with the kids, already dreaming of summer, and also getting back out in the garden! Today i had a chance to get out there by myself for an hour. I'm still cleaning up, pruning and getting ready for the summer ahead.

Here's a old cartoon that i found when looking at pictures for card-making. This was done in Ottawa around eight or nine years ago.

Happy V Day!

good times at christieview farm

It was a great week plus at Christieview Farm. We lucked out with the weather, and had a blast with the snow. We are leaving Dundas with sweet memories of farm adventures, visits with family and friends as well as some beautiful new pottery! Miles might also be bringing a little chicken manure on the bottom of his shoes.
I probably won't post again till at home, happily sipping a latte.
Happy Feb!
