Bike N’ Hike Mother’s Day 2009

I needed a day to relax. To not work on a house project, plan a party/gathering, build a chicken coop. I wanted to go for a hike and a bike. We started with a lazy morning – lattes, cards and hotcakes. Then we got out the bikes. The weather was great. I pulled M out of the incline and through the city streets until we got to the bike path. That takes about five minutes.

Then she hopped off and biked on her own. She looks so cute.

My favourite stretch on this path. There is a long rock wall that is covered with green moss. It is a quiet spot and so pretty.

New Years Eve Owling

Inspired by a new family favourite, Owl Moon, we went out owling on New Year's Eve day. We found other beautiful things along the way.

We found some lingering snow hiding in the forest.

We had listened to some owl calls that morning. So we found our owl voices too.

To the delight of all of us, especially our owl-loving son, we did see an owl on our way home. This was by sheer luck, and the fact that a group of birds were harassing it. As Miles will tell you with hand gestures, it swooped "right" by his head. I think that we also found a fun new New Years Day tradition.

We've been saving the Halloween M&Ms for such an occcasion. We made Owl Hoot cookies to complete the adventure!

This is one of my favourite pictures of the kids. It is classic how-it-is with M&M. Miles is also holding a favourite leaf - taking a break from the huge stick.

A Family of Snow People

Yesterday i volunteered in Mina's classroom and helped make these fun snow-people for the students. The idea was so fun that we thought we'd make these at home!
